Runda eliminacyjna

The elimination round is the knockout stage that follows qualification in World Archery target competition. Archers are placed in a bracket by their qualification ranking, so the top seeds face the lowest seeds in the early rounds, and each head-to-head match knocks one archer out until, in individual events, eight are left for the finals rounds.

Szczegóły

How many archers go through depends on the event. World Archery's match play charts hold 8, 16, 24, 32, 64 or 104 athletes or teams. For outdoor individual events the events rules give 104 or 64 places and for the 18 m round 32, with 24 or 16 places for outdoor teams and mixed teams and 16 indoors. The technical delegate and the organising committee decide the number and announce it once registration closes.

Places in the bracket follow the qualification ranking. On the 64-athlete chart, first meets 64th and second meets 63rd, and the top two seeds sit in opposite halves, so they can only meet in the gold medal match. A tie that decides who makes the cut is shot off rather than settled by counting Xs or 10s. When there are fewer archers than places, the missing opponents become byes, and an archer with a bye goes straight through to the next round. On the 104-athlete and 24-athlete charts the top eight seeds start with byes.

Elimination matches are shot simultaneously, with the archers side by side, and the finals rounds that follow are shot alternately. Recurve and barebow matches use the set system and compound matches total points, as described under head-to-head. An archer or team not present when the match begins forfeits it, and the opponent goes through.

The round also settles the final ranking. Archers who miss the cut are ranked on their qualification scores, and archers knocked out at the same stage are ranked by their arrow average in that stage, not by their margin of defeat.

World Archery's field and 3D events run their own version: on the 24-archer chart the top 24 from qualification enter, the top eight with byes, and with fewer entrants a 16-archer chart is used. Elimination matches are six targets, and the last four shoot semi-finals and medal matches. Many club and league events have no elimination round at all and are decided on total score, so check the format of your event.

Najczęstsze pytania

How many archers make the elimination round?
It depends on the event. World Archery's charts hold up to 104 athletes, and its events rules give 104 or 64 places for outdoor individual events and 32 for the 18 m round. The technical delegate and the organisers decide the number. In World Archery field and 3D events, up to 24 archers go through.
What is a bye in archery?
A bye is a match that does not take place because there are not enough archers to fill every place in the bracket. The archer with the bye advances to the next round; under World Archery rules they may practise meanwhile, but those arrows are not scored. Because the empty places are the lowest seeds, the byes go to the top seeds.
How are archers seeded in the elimination round?
By their qualification ranking. World Archery's match play charts pair the top seeds with the lowest seeds in the early rounds, after any byes, and keep the top seeds apart, so the top two can only meet in the gold medal match. Ties for the last places in the bracket are settled by a shoot-off.
