Compound target archery is target archery shot with a compound bow, usually with a release aid and a magnifying sight. Under World Archery rules, compound archers in most classes shoot 72 arrows at 50 metres on an 80 cm face outdoors, and 60 arrows at 18 metres indoors, where only a small inner ring scores 10.

Szczegóły

World Archery's target rules let the Compound division use any additional device that is not electric or electronic, does not compromise safety and does not disturb other athletes. The bow's draw is varied by pulleys or cams, its peak draw weight may not exceed 60 pounds, and its riser may be a shoot-through design. The sight may have a level, magnifying lenses or prisms, the string may carry a peep sight, a kisser button and a D-loop, and a release aid may be used if it is not permanently attached to the bow. Any number of stabilisers is allowed, and the arrow rest's pressure point may sit up to 6 cm behind the grip's pivot point.

Outdoors, compound archers shoot at 50 metres on an 80 cm face, and U15 archers at 40 metres. At international events it must be the 6-ring face, which keeps only the 5 to 10 zones. On that face the 10 ring is 8 cm across, and a 4 cm inner ten, recorded as an X, helps break ties. Indoors at 18 metres the face is a 40 cm compound triple at international events, and there only the 2 cm inner ring scores 10; the rest of the gold scores 9.

Compound matches are scored on total points, not sets. An individual match is five ends of three arrows, so 150 is perfect, and team matches are four ends, with six arrows per end for a team and four for a mixed team. A tied individual match goes to a single-arrow shoot-off, then to the arrow nearest the centre. Tied qualification scores rank on Xs, then 10s, at long distances and on 10s, then 9s, at short ones, unless the tie decides a place in the bracket.

World Archery's events rules list the Compound division alongside Recurve for the Olympic Games, with Olympic records for the 72-arrow compound 50 m round and a compound mixed team round. Other federations run compound target archery under their own rules: the NFAA indoor round and the Vegas Shoot, for example, use their own faces, rounds and scoring. Check the rulebook for your event.

Margins are small, so many compound archers practise on the face and at the distance they compete at, with a sight mark for each distance. A few points lost to the inner ring indoors, or to wind at 50 metres, decide many matches.

Najczęstsze pytania

What distance do compound archers shoot in target archery?
Under World Archery rules, compound archers shoot at 50 metres on an 80 cm face outdoors, except U15 archers, who shoot at 40 metres, and at 18 metres on 40 cm faces indoors. Other federations, such as the NFAA, set their own rounds and distances, so check the rulebook for your event.
Why is the compound ten smaller indoors?
On World Archery's 40 cm and 60 cm faces, compound archers score only the inner ring as 10, 2 cm across on the 40 cm face, and the rest of the gold scores 9. Outdoors on the 80 cm face, compound archers score the normal ten ring, and the inner ring is the X used for ties.
Is compound archery in the Olympics?
World Archery's events rules list the Compound division alongside Recurve for the Olympic Games, and define Olympic records for the compound 50 m round and a compound mixed team round. Which compound events are on the programme is decided for each Games, so check the programme of the Games you follow.
