How does IFAA Animal Round scoring work?

Two zones, kill and wound, and up to three arrows. You stop shooting the moment an arrow hits, and only that arrow counts. A first-arrow kill scores 20 and a first-arrow wound 18; the second arrow scores 16 or 14, the third 12 or 10. Miss with all three and the target scores nothing.

Which IFAA round do the printable faces use?

The 3-D Hunting Round — one arrow, scored kill 20, vital 16 or wound 10. It is written for ringed foam animal targets, which is what our faces reproduce; the 3-D Standard Round uses the same three zones at lower values. The 11 and 10 share the kill value between them. The Animal Round would collapse all three zones into a single kill.

How is the IFAA face different from ASA / IBO?

IFAA animal faces have two scoring areas, kill and wound, and its 3-D rounds use three — kill, vital and wound. IBO and WA-3D score four zones (11 / 10 / 8 / body) and ASA six. Our prints keep the IBO four-ring geometry and map it onto IFAA's three 3-D zones.

IFAA (International Field Archery Association) is the international body for field archery. It runs Field and Hunter rounds on paper target faces, an Animal Round on animal faces scored kill or wound, and separate 3-D rounds shot on foam animal targets scored kill, vital or wound. Its rules are published in the IFAA Book of Rules.

The IFAA Animal Round is shot on 2D animal faces carrying exactly two scoring areas: an oblong kill zone, and the wound area between the kill and the hide-and-hair line. Anything outside that line does not score. An archer may shoot up to three arrows at a target but stops as soon as one hits, and only that arrow counts. The value depends on which arrow scored: the first is worth 20 in the kill and 18 in the wound, the second 16 or 14, the third 12 or 10. A standard unit is fourteen targets, so a perfect unit is 280.

IFAA also runs two rounds on foam 3-D targets, and these are the ones our scaled practice faces follow. Both use three zones: the inner circles combined make the kill, the outer scoring ring is the vital, and the rest of the silhouette out to the hairline is the wound. The 3-D Hunting Round is a single arrow scoring 20, 16 or 10; the 3-D Standard Round is two arrows, both counted, scoring 10, 8 or 5.

On our face the 11 and 10 rings together are the kill, the 8-ring is the vital, and the body outside the 8 is the wound. The 11 and 10 sit inside the combined kill and share its value, so the face reads as three scored zones rather than four. The Animal Round would not use the rings at all: on a 3-D target IFAA merges every defined scoring area into one kill zone.

IFAA also shoots the Animal Round at unmarked distances, and its Field and Hunter rounds use ordinary ring scoring on paper faces rather than silhouettes. The full rule set lives in the IFAA Book of Rules.
